To hold two conflicting ideas in ones mind and yet to still remain ungoverned by any, this is the sign of true maturity. The point when one has reached full development which covers mental, physical, sexual, emotional development, when all these aspects of a person has been developed then we can say the person is mature or has reached maturity. The writer, however begs to differ on the grounds that maturity is not of an objective process than a subjective, being that the yardsticks for the calculations of maturity and immaturity have faulted in their construct of the processes of determining a mature and immature individual.
Human society has over time, loved to find standard separations of defining things. Between the lines of right and wrong, good and bad, light and darkness, rich and poor and so on, but the fact that defining lines are there do not mean that what falls on either side deserves to be on that side because it has not met the threshold of human constructed judgement, if a man fails to call his girlfriend regularly but buys her gifts every other day, takes her out randomly, movie dates, grants her needs and desires but has the singular fault of not calling her on a regular, does that then mean he is not a caring person, for the sake of not calling her which is a yardstick for caring in most modern day relationships? Or does a mother fall short of her responsibility as a mother for having a help who bathes, dresses, feeds her child so she can work and provide for the basic necessities of her child and even the maid who tends to her child?.
The attachment of standards to things and items is also an aspect in the human mental way of life, we prefer to know that a thing or an item has a value attached to it and hence we feel more purposed when we acquire that item at a price, therefore we created means of tender, and attached value to ranges of things, and for a person to be able to use an item they must have the tender of exchange. Let us however not move from our discussion at hand, the above descriptions where giving for a better understanding of the next phase.
The mind is the governing factor to the highest degree of a persons wellness, wellness here being the wholeness or totality of a person, mentally, physically, emotionally, sexually, and otherwise covering the individuals awareness of himself/herself, therefore if the mind of a person is unwell the person inadvertently becomes unwell. From our example above of a man who cares for his girlfriend in all aspects and yet faults in one which is to call her regularly, does the man then become a 'bad' person 'non caring' for the sole reason of not calling even after meeting the qualifications for being a caring boyfriend in all other aspects?.
Our definition of maturity earlier stated the totality of development in aspects of mentality, physicality, emotionality, sexuality, if however a person meets the threshold of all but faults in one is he then mature?
The growth of an organism is determined mostly by the mental capability the organism obtains, when a child is born it requires caregivers for everything but when he or she has reached a level of independence then the need for caregivers is of no importance, the reason being the child is now an individual in society and can make independent decisions.
In the human yardstick of division and description, an adult or individual in society is regarded as such when they acquire the age of 18 they are hence believed to be good judgementaly, to make right decisions, if this is so then, why are there crimes and other negative vices, does it then mean that there is a fault in the lines of training children to become individuals or in the yard stick of societal divisions of adulthood and childhood?
The mind is the governing factor for an organisms wellness, hence the mind plays a monstrous role in the definition of maturity, it can then be said with great boldness that maturity is the mental construct of an individual or child as the case maybe, being not a part in the difining of maturity but the standard by which maturity be measured and calculated.
It has been biologically proven that an organism can grow to the fullness of maturity but yet remain mentally undeveloped such cases have been labeled cretinism or imbecility as the case maybe (the writer is not a scientist but a student of reason) in such situations, in plain terms, the individual grows physically, sexually but not mentally hence not emotionally also, therefore, the other aspects are rendered useless because the mental yardstick is lacking. The writer will like to state here yet, that the mind is the yardstick, standard for the calculation of maturity.
For an example, in the determining of the political construct of a nation and who sits on the sit of power and who doesn't, competency, knowledge and understanding of the political workings of the political geolocation is paramount, for anyone to have franchise to be able to excercise it, that person must first be socially an 'individual', does it then mean that if there is one who is not regarded as a social individual but has the knowledge, understanding of the competency required to sit in the sit of power, not himself but in another, suddenly become of less capacity to excercise this franchise? Or even have it in the first place? Does it change the fact that the awareness asper politically is present? Does it mean because the individual is not socially an individual therefore irrelevant as regards the process?
Who makes the standards.
